Storytelling

Sgeul | Story: Folktales from the Scottish Highlands

Uair den t-saoghal is beag fios a bha aig mòran dhaoine air beul-aithris na Gàidhlig taobh a-muigh na Gàidhealtachd fhèin. Ann an 1859, thòisich Iain Òg Ìle agus a charaidean air na sgeulachdan sin a chruinneachadh leis gun robh beul-aithris a’ crìonadh. Lorg e mòr-ulaidh dha-rìribh. Once upon a time, Scottish Gaelic folktales were almost unknown beyond the Highlands. In 1859, John Francis Campbell and friends began collecting these stories as the oral tradition was dwindling. He found a treasure trove. Discover these stories and more in our first dual-language exhibition.
