Blood, Sweat and Tears: Scotland's HIV Story

This display, co-curated with Waverley Care, looks back at the earliest stages of the HIV outbreak in Scotland in the 1980s. It shows the fear, stigma and heartbreak that followed, as well as the emergence of effective treatments that shifted the focus to living well with HIV. The display showcases photos, creative writing and other materials alongside oral histories that preserve the memories of people involved in community response to HIV. It also focuses on Milestone House in Edinburgh, the UK’s first purpose-built AIDS hospice.
