O Tusitala: Tellers of Tales

This new one-person play by leading Samoan writer Sia Figiel vividly tells, through the voices of never-before-heard indigenous characters, the extraordinary story of Robert Louis Stevenson's household in 1890s Samoa. Through powerful monologues and magnificent music by characters from gardeners to cooks to Stevenson himself, this is a striking portrayal of a fascinating history exploring Stevenson's engagement with Samoan politics and culture, his adventures in agriculture and the bonds he formed with people who knew him not as a famous writer, but as an employer, a political ally, a high chief and friend.
